There are several factors to consider when trying to improve energy efficiency in you home. It’s not just about insulation.

AIR CONDITIONING
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) is one factor. The higher the number, the better.
The old window units have the compressor and condenser together in the unit, generating heat in the very thing responsible for taking heat out of the home. Mini-Splits are a much better choice, separating the indoor and outdoor unit. Ductwork leaks can make a conventional central system inefficient.

WINDOWS
Are the windows in your home single pane or double pane? Are they framed in wood, aluminum or vinyl. This matters with energy consumption.

ROOFS
Does the roof have a vented ridge and vented soffits, to let heat escape? Attic fans can often consume more energy than they save. Passive is the way to go. Heat rises, let natural ventilation work for you.
Adding insulation, may not be the best return on investment (ROI) for your money and time. Know all the factors that can affect your energy bills. You have already made a great decision by choosing to improve the energy efficiency of your home.
